We are thrilled to welcome you back to in-person performances indoors at the Hylton Center this fall. Details about current protocols are below and will continue to be updated as information evolves. View the 2021/2022 season

Seating will be at full capacity for indoor performances. Family Series events will be offered in seating groups of varying sizes in order to maintain 3-feet of physical distancing between parties.

Vaccination Policy

Beginning October 18, 2021, all attendees regardless of age who attend an indoor event or performance at the Hylton Center, must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the date of their visit and present proof of vaccination or show a negative COVID-19 test result upon entry. Acceptable negative results must be from CDC approved Rapid Antigen tests within 48 hours of performance time or PCR tests within 72 hours of performance time. Face coverings are required indoors for patrons ages two and up.

Proof of vaccination and matching photo ID will be required upon entry into the venue in the form of a physical vaccination card, a digital copy on a mobile device, digital presentation of a vaccine passport app, a printout from a medical provider, or an individual’s state vaccine registry.An accompanying adult may verbally confirm a minor's identity.

Patrons who are not vaccinated (including those under age 12) must provide proof of negative COVID-19 test prior to entering the venue.  

Acceptable negative test results must be from CDC approved:

  • Rapid Antigen tests within 48 hours of performance time or
  • PCR tests within 72 hours of performance time

Self-administered or at-home COVID-19 test results will not be accepted.

What to Expect

Do you have a vaccination requirement for indoor events and performances?

Yes, Beginning October 18, 2021, all attendees at indoor events must present proof of vaccination against COVID-19 OR show a negative COVID-19 test result. Face coverings are required indoors for patrons ages two and up. Read the full policy.

If patrons are not vaccinated against COVID-19, will they need to present negative COVID-19 test results for indoor events?

Yes. Beginning October 18, 2021 and until further notice, all attendees regardless of age who attend an indoor event or performance at the Hylton Center, must be fully vaccinated (14 days since second shot of double-dose vaccine or 14 days since single-dose vaccine) against COVID-19 by the date of their visit and present proof of vaccination OR show a negative COVID-19 test result, upon entry into the venue. How will seating work? Can I sit next to my friends and family?

The Hylton Center is seating all seats in our venues, with the exception of our Hylton Family Series events. Most events are on sale with reserved seating. General admission events are seated on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Upon arrival, patrons may present a digital or physical ticket to be scanned. If you require accessible seating or other seating accommodations, please reach out to  hylton@gmu.edu ​or call 703-993-7700.  

The Hylton Center reserves the right to reseat patrons based on new guidelines and information. 

 

What if I need an accessible seat?

How long will performances be? Will there be an intermission?

Most performances will have an intermission. Please check our calendar to view performance run times.  

How many people will be attending this event?

Merchant Hall is open at full capacity and is an 1120-seat venue. Gregory Family Theater is a 240-seat venue. 

Will there be pre or post performance events?

The Hylton Center will be resuming pre and post events for performances, such as our Pre-Performance Discussions. Please see the calendar for specific event information. 

What do I need to bring?

In order for you to have a successful and safe visit, please bring the following: 

  • Your ticket
  • Face coverings are required indoors for patrons ages two and up.
  • Proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test result. Beginning October 18, 2021, all attendees at indoor events must present proof of vaccination against COVID-19 OR show a CDC approved negative COVID-19 test result. Read the full policy.
  • Photo ID. An Accompanying adult may verbally verify the identity of minors.
  • If desired, patrons are permitted to bring a bottled water, as concessions remained closed.

Where do I park? Is Accessible parking available?

Free parking is available in the lot directly in front of the Hylton Center.

A drop-off circle is available directly in front of the main entrance to the Hylton Performing Arts Center. A number of wheelchair accessible parking spaces are available in the primary parking area, in proximity to the entrance.

How early can I arrive at the venue?

The check-in area and the venue will open one hour prior to the performance time. Seating will begin 30 minutes prior to performance start time. 

Will restrooms be available? How often will they be cleaned?

The restrooms in the Hylton Center will be open at full capacity. Restrooms are cleaned frequently according to Mason's guidelines.

Covid-19 Safety Information

How are you ensuring the safety of audience members?

  • No one with a fever or other symptoms of COVID-19, or who has been exposed to a known COVID-19 case in the prior 10 days, is permitted on campus.

  • Vaccinations: As employees of George Mason University, all Hylton Performing Arts Center staff members are required to be vaccinated against Covid-19. To learn more about Mason's vaccine requirements, please visit the Safe Return to Campus website

  • Physical Distancing: All Hylton Family Series events will be sold with 3ft of distancing in between parties. For parties larger than 6 people, please contact the Hylton Center Ticket Office at hylton@gmu.edu ​or call 703-993-7700.  

  • Face Coverings: Face coverings are required indoors for all individuals

  • Hand Sanitizing Stations: Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the venue and near the Ticket Office and restrooms.  

  • Cleaning Protocols: The Hylton Center is following George Mason University's guidance for cleaning and disinfecting the facility.  

  • Stay home if you are sick: If you are not able to attend, please contact the Ticket Office before the event to discuss the options of an exchange certificate or an in-kind donation.  

  • By attending this event, you voluntarily assume the risk of exposure to Covid-19. 

How are you ensuring the safety of your staff and artists?

The Hylton Center staff continue to follow all Covid-19 protocols outlined by George Mason University. For the latest information on safety protocols, please visit the Safe Return to Campus webpage. If any staff display symptoms of Covid-19, or have been in contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19, they will not be present on the George Mason University campus. Our safety, and your safety, is our top priority. 

All artists will adhere to international and domestic travel and safety guidelines. Artists and Hylton Center staff members are working together closely to ensure that appropriate health and safety protocols are maintained. 

What measures is the Hylton Center taking to minimize risk, beyond university protocols?

George Mason University has outlined numerous safety protocols, all of which the Hylton Center has adapted. The Hylton is taking additional steps to minimize the risk including: 

  • Providing distanced seating for Hylton Family Series and student programming 

  • Distributing digital programs in place of paper programs or playbills 

  • Addressing airflow: actions have been taken to increase outside (fresh) air supply by 50%; run ventilation systems continuously, thus increasing the movement and exchange of air; and ensure that all fans, filters, and ducts are functioning properly 

How can patrons help us for a safe reopening?

We ask that our patrons partner with the Hylton Center in taking steps to minimize the spread of Covid-19. Please keep high-risk behaviors in mind before coming to our venue; if you have recently traveled out of the state, participated in large social gatherings, or have been around persons who tested positive for Covid-19, consider staying home to enjoy our Hylton at Home virtual content!  

If you’ve tested positive for Covid-19 within 2 weeks of coming to our venue, please inform us immediately, so we may assist the state with contact tracing. 

Ticket Information

How do I purchase tickets?

Tickets for events presented by the Hylton Center can be purchased online at HyltonCenter.org, You may call 703-993-7700 to purchase tickets over the phone, or you can visit the Ticket Office in person during our regular business hours.   

Subscriptions and tickets for winter/spring 2022 events are available to Friends of the Hylton Center beginning October 5 at 10 a.m. and to the general public beginning October 12 at 10 a.m. 

What if I need accessible seating?

Can I print my own ticket or present my ticket on my phone?

Yes, when you purchase your tickets, select the digital ticket option in the cart online or let the ticket seller assisting you know your preference. You will receive an email from ordertracking@tickets.com with a link to either print your tickets or open up digital tickets on your phone. When presenting your tickets to an usher, please make sure the barcode is visible and turn up the screen brightness on your phone.  

Where do I go to pick up my tickets on the day of the performance?

Ticket pick-up, or Will Call, will be located at the Hylton Center Ticket Office, right inside the Hylton Center lobby, beginning one hour prior to the start of events.  

Can I buy a ticket at the Ticket Office right before the event?

If tickets are still available for sale, you may purchase your ticket at the Ticket Office beginning one hour prior to the start of events taking place in Merchant Hall. Credit cards, cash, and checks will be accepted. 

What if I am sick and unable to attend the performance?

Please contact the Ticket Office before the performance to let them know that you will not be able to attend. The Ticket Office will assist you in either donating the value of your tickets back to the Hylton Center or receiving an exchange voucher for the value of the tickets which may be used for future purchases.  

Ticket Options: 

  • Donation: Donate the cost of the tickets back to the Hylton Center as an in-kind contribution and receive an acknowledgement letter for tax purposes from the GMU Foundation. 

  • Exchange Certificate: The certificate is valid for other in-person ticketed events in the Hylton Presents  season, the Family Series, Hylton on the Hill Series, or Matinee Idylls Series.

Can I purchase tickets to these performances as a subscription?

Fall 2021 performances are only available to buy for individual events. Subscription packages will not be offered for these events. Half-price tickets for youth through grade 12 are available for purchase. 2019/2020 subscribers receive a 20% discount on all fall Hylton Presents performances. Access this special fall discount by purchasing through the Ticket Office or through your existing subscriber account at HyltonCenter.org/account

Subscription packages will be available for winter/spring 2022 events beginning October 12.
