Didlake, Inc. Partnership Enhances Accessibility

Body

The Hylton Performing Arts Center is proud to celebrate its continued, generous partnership with Didlake, Inc., a leading Virginia organization dedicated to providing employment and community engagement opportunities for individuals with disabilities. A long-time supporter of the Hylton Center, Didlake's commitment to inclusivity is prominently recognized through the naming of the Hylton Center’s Didlake Grand Foyer.

The 2024–25 season marked an exciting expansion of Didlake’s impactful reach, as their support increased to include George Mason University's Center for the Arts on the Fairfax Campus. This broadened partnership and increased donation are instrumental in creating an even more welcoming and enriching performing arts experience for individuals with disabilities across both venues.

Thanks to Didlake’s unwavering support, the Hylton Center has significantly expanded programs and offerings for people living with disabilities. These enhanced services include:

  • Closed and Open Captioning: Making performances more accessible to individuals with hearing impairments
  • American Sign Language (ASL) Interpretation: Providing ASL interpreters for select performances, ensuring a more inclusive experience
  • Advanced Disability Awareness Training for Ushers: Equipping our usher teams with enhanced knowledge and sensitivity to better assist all patrons
  • Sensory-Friendly Lighting: Adjusting lighting to be less overwhelming for individuals with sensory sensitivities
  • Sensory-Friendly Kits for Guests: Offering kits with tools to help guests with sensory needs feel more comfortable during performances

Didlake's support has also been crucial in the creation of a printed Accessibility Services brochure, now available at the Hylton Center. This brochure serves as a comprehensive guide to all the accessibility services offered at our venue.

We are incredibly grateful for Didlake’s dedication to fostering a truly inclusive arts community. Their generosity ensures that the transformative power of the performing arts is accessible to everyone.
