Part-Time Stage Technicians
The Hylton Performing Arts Center on the Sci-Tech Campus of George Mason University is seeking part time stage technicians. A specialization in one field is by no means a deal breaker. There is room to learn and grow in the fields available through in house training and mentoring. We are not a producing house. We are a rental venue to local, national, and international performance groups & conferences/events.
This is a highly general position, responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
- Audio / video set up & strike
- light hangs / focus
- assist is the rigging of drops, scenery, lighting pipes, ets
- working load ins & outs
- clean stages, storage & other work areas
- perform cleaning and light duty maintenance of stage, lighting, sound and related equipment.
- perform light duty carpentry / set up
- operate “fly” system for raising and lowering scenery, lighting, etc
- operate consoles for lighting, audio, video systems
- perform tasks during run of show including moving scenery and microphones, running follow spot, etc
- general non-technical equipment set up & strike.
Skillsets Preferred: Experience in one or more of the following:
- Stage Management
- Stage Electrical
- Stage Carpentry
- Counterweight Fly Systems
- Audio A1/A2
Skillsets Required:
- Experience in a maintenance or laborer environment
- Proven record of punctuality
- Willingness and ability to work evening and weekend hours
- comfort with personnel lift & ladder height of at least 15’ and higher
- Lift 50+ lbs.
- Patience
- Team Player
- Personal Transportation.
Pay Rate: $17 - $27/hour depending on experience and technical expertise.

Spring 2026 Marketing Internship
The College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) at George Mason University seeks qualified marketing and communications interns for spring 2026. This position will work with the CVPA, Center for the Arts and Hylton Performing Arts Center marketing staff to promote performances, events, and programs.
Internships may have various areas of focus including:
- General marketing support including reviewing and editing patron-focused communications and website content;
- General publicity support including compiling earned media coverage, updating press contacts, and entering events into external calendars;
- Multimedia (videography/photography) collection support;
- Grassroots outreach;
- Email Marketing editing.
12-15 hours/week minimum preferred. Scheduling is flexible. Internships are unpaid.
Necessary skills:
- Ability to independently manage time-sensitive projects;
- Strong writing, editing/proofreading skills;
- Familiarity with MS Office applications (Mac experience is a plus).
