Women Veterans share their artwork from an Empowered Legacy Workshop.

Join us this spring for free activities and opportunities to get involved with our Veterans and the Arts Initiative. While our popular Guitar Workshop registration just recently reached full capacity, as did the Virtual Acrylic Painting Workshops, there are still lots of fun workshops to explore. This March, learn how to share your family’s stories in a personal and captivating way through the Empowered Legacy Workshop Series: Preserving Military Stories Through Oral History (3/6, 3/13, 3/20), taught by Tina Claflin, retired Coast Guard Veteran. In April, harness the potential of your handheld device in an Introduction to Smartphone Photography class (4/3, 4/10, 4/17). You’ll learn composition, lighting, editing, and more from School of Art faculty member Thuy Senser.

Did you know the Veterans and the Arts Initiative also collaborates with Prince William Public Libraries to offer workshops in the community? Come out to Bull Run Library (5/2) or Chinn Park Library (5/5) and pick up hands-on techniques for creating stunning, one-of-a-kind prints at a newly curated Gel Plate Printing Workshop. This workshop is taught by Valerie Acosta-Gonzalez, retired Air Force Veteran, artist, and assistant with the Veterans and the Arts Initiative. Finally, don’t miss two exciting concerts this spring: The United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" Presents The Music of Janelle Monáe: Love, Liberation, and Joy (2/20) and American Festival Pops Orchestra’s Armed Forces Day Celebration (5/17).

All of these offerings are completely FREE to Veterans, Servicemembers, military family members, and military caregivers. Learn more about the Veterans and the Arts Initiative, and join in the fun today!
