Latin Beats
We promise you’ll feel the rhythm with these incredible Latin American musical performances. Bring the whole family to Encanto: The Sing-Along Film Concert (10/6). It’s a theatrical screening of the new Disney classic with songs accompanied by a live band. Fans are encouraged to sing with the performers and come dressed as your favorite character!
Enjoy a performance filled with positive messages of brotherhood, equity, and love as one of the season’s Artists-in-Residence, the Villalobos Brothers (10/26), wow in a concert showcasing how the GRAMMY Award-winning artists are redefining contemporary Mexican music. And don’t miss the Juan Megna Trio (3/5) as part of the Matinee Idylls series, helmed by our Argentine-born George Mason University Dewberry School of Music professor. The group will perform original compositions, blended jazz, and Argentinian and Afro-Brazilian rhythms.

Classic Tales
Witness the literary power of classic stories come to life on stage! Our youngest patrons are sure to recognize
nine-year-old Elmer Elevator, the MacGyver of children’s storybooks. Can he rescue a baby dragon held captive on Wild Island? Find out in Enchantment Theatre Company’s My Father’s Dragon (11/23) on the Hylton Family Series. The Acting Company (2/15) presents Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, a farcical romp punctuated by mistaken identities and hilarious mayhem! And is there a literary pair that reflects #friendshipgoals more than Frog and Toad? Spend A Year With Frog and Toad (3/29) celebrating their seasonal adventures in this jazzy, Tony Award-winning musical that can be found on the Hylton Family Series, among other family-friendly performances.

Celtic Pride
Irish dance and music has long been an integral part of our annual season lineup. Husband and wife duo Tara McNeill and Alexander Bernstein (11/13) deliver Irish flair with classical panache on the violin and piano as part of the Matinee Idylls series. McNeill is best known as a member of the GRAMMY-nominated group Celtic Woman. Audience favorite Seán Heely (12/15) returns with his fiddle for lively Irish tunes and familiar Christmas melodies with a Celtic twist. Then join Irish bluegrass group JigJam (3/14) for foot-stomping, heart-pounding feel-good tunes—just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.

Audience Participation
Sitting in a plush seat and letting the music wash over you is one way to enjoy a concert, but the following performances are a little extra, and your participation is requested! As previously mentioned under our “Latin Beats” category, dress-up as your favorite character and sing along to Encanto: The Sing-Along Film Concert (10/6)—we know you know all the words! Speaking of which, we want to hear you warbling along with the Christmas carol singalong when the American Festival Pops Orchestra presents Holiday Pops: Songs of the Season (12/13). Or, if you have a burning question about your favorite composer, don’t be shy—just ask during the Q&A portion of Keyboard Conversations® with Jeffrey Siegel (3/2). Likewise, become part of broadcast history when you join in for a live recording of the beloved public radio show Mountain Stage hosted by Kathy Mattea (4/6) and witness the stars of today and tomorrow in this on-the-road taping.

The Holiday Spirit
As the heat and humidity rise outside, a chill in the air seems like a welcome respite. Use this imagery to get a jump on your holiday planning! Our festive musical lineup captures the spirit of the season when we kick December off with Chanticleer (12/1), whose breathtaking a cappella offers a rich and varied program of holiday wonders. Classical crossover quartet, the Sons of Serendip (12/8), showcase their velvety harmony and fresh interpretations of traditional holiday tunes, while the always-popular American Festival Pops Orchestra presents Holiday Pops: Songs of the Season (12/13). Don’t forget audience favorite Seán Heely (12/15) in a performance of lively Irish tunes and familiar Christmas melodies with a Celtic twist.

Powerhouse Women

This Broadway baby has starred in Hamilton as Angelica Schuyler, in Wicked as Elphaba, and as Nina Rosario in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights. Artist-in-Residence Elena Moon Park (2/8) sings music from around the globe for kids on the Hylton Family Series, while virtuoso Sandy Cameron electrifies on the violin with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra (2/23).
