Happy 2024! We can’t wait to share our winter and spring Hylton Presents performances with you! We’re kicking the year off right with an early Mardi Gras celebration when the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra (1/27) raises the roof in what Artistic Director Jim Carroll promises “will be jam-packed with rhythm and groove," featuring some of the region’s finest musicians. If you’re a circus or acrobatics fan, you’ll want to be sure to attend the unique theatrical experience that is Cirque Mechanics (2/3 and 2/4). This troupe has a notably modern aesthetic that beautifully highlights the contrasts between humans, nature, and machinery. Their performance Zephyr - A Whirlwind of Circus, was inspired by a visit to Whissendine Windmill, a working windmill in central England. And, the performance itself features an on-stage windmill to serve as the multi-functional mechanical centerpiece of the story.
We’re also excited to welcome Drum Tao 2024 (2/10) back to our stage. These talented and athletic performers have been busy performing for more than nine million adoring audience members. The performances showcase Japanese taiko drums, Japanese Shinobue (flute), Koto (harp), and Syamisen (guitar).
“There is dynamic diversity in their presentation,” a BroadwayWorld reviewer said. “We move from intense pounded-out declarations, to the soothing feeling of nature…your heart will be racing, the good kind of racing; from enjoyment.”
The steady rhythm of the drumbeat continues with a fiery performance from MALEVO (2/17), Argentina’s answer to Stomp and Riverdance! Created by director, choreographer, and dancer Matías Jaime, the troupe has reimagined the traditional Argentinian dance, Malambo, by merging elements of flamenco, tango, and Irish stepdance with percussion to create an extraordinary visual and sensory theatrical experience. Historically, Malambo was a folkloric dance performed by Gauchos of the Pampas region. In Jaime’s version, it’s an avant-garde and transgressive vision set to pulsating drums with edgy choreography. If you recognize this group, it might be from their appearances on America’s Got Talent!
Closing the month of February for Hylton Presents performances is the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (2/25), in its first U.S. tour since conflict in its country began.
