The Hylton Center’s new Education and Rehearsal Wing opened in December 2019, adding 17,000 square feet of space for rehearsals, classes, and performances. Executive Director Rick Davis shared, “the opening of this new Wing not only means an expansion of educational offerings at the Hylton Center, but also the opportunity for the artists and arts educators of our community to fully enter into the entire life-cycle of artistic creation.”
On February 9, the Hylton Center invited the community to join us for a fun, Family Open House in celebration of the Wing. In between Hylton Family Series performances of The Rainbow Fish, hundreds of families participated in hands-on activities that included live music by Parent’s Choice Awards recipient Hot Peas 'N Butter founder, Danny Lapidus; face painting by Edgemoor Art Studio, Inc.; interactive arts and crafts tables; a kids’ community art project inspired by The Rainbow Fish; and instrument petting zoos with Mason Community Arts Academy. Families also interacted with Hylton Center community Arts Partners and learned more about these talented community groups through demonstrations and activity tables.
