From live sketch comedy to high-intensity acrobatics, the Hylton Center’s October line up offers something for everyone with performances by The Second City (10/4); Jeffrey Siegel’s popular Keyboard Conversations®: Spellbinding Bach (10/5); the Hylton Family Series’ Moon Mouse: A Space Odyssey (10/6); cellist Matt Haimovitz and pianist Simone Dinnerstein (10/13); and Cirque Mei: Elite Circus Artists and Acrobats from the Hebei Province, China (10/24).
The Second City’s (10/4) unique brand of smart and silly satire has defined social and political comedy for 60 years, inspiring television sensations Saturday Night Live and Whose Line is it Anyway? Enjoy laugh-out-loud entertainment by this hilarious troupe, followed by a free After Hours Improv session in the Gregory Family Theater featuring George Mason University's premier improv troupe, The Mason Improv Association.The Hylton Family Series launches off in style with the out of this world space adventure Moon Mouse: A Space Odyssey (10/6), a visually stunning theatrical experience with glow-in-the dark puppets, electro-luminescent wire, movement, and dance. Following the performance, kids will want to be sure to claim their fun glow-in-the-dark surprise while exiting the theater! The following weekend, help us celebrate Beethoven’s upcoming 250th birthday with cellist Matt Haimovitz and pianist Simone Dinnerstein in a concert that juxtaposes Beethoven with one of today’s most influential composers...Philip Glass.
October closes with a bang when Cirque Mei, an ensemble of elite circus performers direct from the People’s Republic of China, transforms Merchant Hall into a stunning display of live Chinese circus arts.
