Mark your calendars early for the Hylton’s 5th annual Celebrating Veterans and the Arts on November 9 at 1:30 p.m. Enjoy a free afternoon of interactive arts experiences for Veterans, Servicemembers, their families, military caregivers, and the community. Activities are fun for all ages and include hands-on visual arts, guitar workshops, a songwriting presentation by military kids and teenagers, and more. In the evening, join us for The U.S. Army Band Pershing’s Own: “We Honor Them All” free concert at 7 p.m. This musical celebration of Veterans offers a modern twist on the typical Veterans Day tradition and features The U.S. Army Band Downrange rocking out to their live orchestra. This performance is free and open to the public, but each patron must have a general admission ticket. We encourage patrons to obtain their tickets in advance. Remaining general admission tickets will be available on the day of the concert.
The Hylton Center will present the Heroes' Voices National Poetry Contest Reading on November 11 at 1 p.m., which will include selections, including national-level prize winners, that reflect on conflict, war, and service. Experience this free, inspirational afternoon of music and poetry that features national-level prize-winning poetry and local voices in a collaborative open-mic setting. Interested participants must contact the Veterans and the Arts Initiative in advance at hylton@gmu.edu. All are welcome to attend as audience members. Complementary refreshments are included.
